SCULPTURE ARCHIVE

Here are a few examples of a my sculptural carvings in jade and wood, dating back to the late 1980s.
This is only a sampling of what I carved over this period as my photography got pretty slack over the years and I don't have images of a lot of my sculptures.

Beauiful jade from Stafford on the West Coast of NZ's South Island. It stands on a Puriri base.
Height overall   23cm

frog sculpture

FROG SCULPTURE
This was my first
frog sculpture. I carved it from a lovely Inanga jade pebble in the early 90's.
Approximately 8cm long.

gecko sculpture

GECKO SCULPTURE
This is one of the first gecko sculptures I carved in the early 90's.
The gecko is a NZ native tree lizard. The stone is a greenish inanga jade, measuring approximately 11cm in length.

GECKO SCULPTURE
Another gecko
sculpture, carved in 1995 for a joint exhibition with Chris Bone (a Takaka icon and bonecarver) at Form Gallery in Christchurch. This faded old photograph doesn't show the colour and chatoyancy (shimmering play of light) of the Inanga pebble. Aproximately 11cm long.

whale sculpture

SPERM WHALE
Carved from a bright green pebble
which is beautifully chatoyant. The eye is a facetted emerald.Carved in the mid 90's.

HERU   (Comb)
The first comb I carved (in the mid eighties). The wood is Puriri, a NZ native from the top of the North Island. It is one of our hardest timbers.
Approximately 16cm long.

HERU
This was the second comb I carved. Made to replace the previous one, which met with a fatal accident after many years of faithful service. The comb is made from Kowhai; the box is Jarrah. Approximately 17cm long overall.
