BRIAN FLINTOFF & CLEM MELLISH - Carvers and makers of traditional Maori instruments. Brian Flintoff is the author of "Taonga Pūoru - Singing Treasures" (Craig Potton Publishing); essential reading for anyone interested in Maori musical instruments.


HIRINI MELBOURNE (1950 - 2003) & RICHARD NUNNS - NZ's leading exponents of Taonga Pūoru. Hirini Melbourne was a contemporary composer, who (along with Richard Nunns, Brian Flintoff and Clem Mellish) began to restore these instruments - many of which had been lost - to their current prominence. From the few examples of Maori instruments held in museum collections, they have expanded our knowledge to the playing and uses of 34 different instruments known to be used by the Maori.
